The ol’ college road trip… sort of

It was kind of like a Hollywood movie script — kind of. Well, not exactly, I guess. I mean, we were on a road trip but it wasn’t spring break, it was last week. And we were in a white Dodge mid-size vehicle, not a cool red convertible. We were actually in college classrooms, not escaping from them. And we’re about two decades older than the average student we talked to. But other than that it was just like a good-old college spring break road trip as depicted in so many B movies.

Last week my Filipina friend Ann Kuy arrived in Chicago and together we traveled to several Christian colleges and universities in the area to promote our communications internship program. Ann is heading up this program that provides ways for college students to do an internship with Monsoon and receive college credit for their time.

You can view the cool new internship promo video here.

This past year we’ve had seven interns — five from the US and two from Germany — who served with us in Asia (and one in PNG.) They were terrific kids. You may remember I mentioned Colin and Rachel Whitehurst, who are still in Malaysia as I write. You can track their experiences on their blog.

These interns are fresh and enthusiastic; they are passionate about missions; they love trying new things and they are fun to work with. It’s been a good experience on all levels. So we’re hoping to expand the program — include more schools, maybe include more majors and add more field sites to the list.

Ann is perfect for this role. She is dedicated to God, to his mission, to serving in any way she can, and she works well with students. She has been a God-send to me. She is organized, efficient, and cheerful to work with. I love Ann and the things she brings to the Monsoon team.

Just FYI, Ann and her husband Oliver who also works for Monsoon as Senior Graphic Designer, are seeking to raise their support to become full-time missionaries. If you’d like to know more about that, drop me a line and I’ll answer any questions you may have or pass your name on to them.
